About This Tool

Choosing the right target format
Format choice is a trade between size, fidelity, and compatibility. JPG is the default for photographs: small files, universal support, but lossy and no transparency. PNG is lossless with full transparency, which makes it right for screenshots, logos, diagrams, and any image containing text. WebP compresses roughly 25–35% smaller than both at similar quality and handles transparency — ideal for websites, though a few older apps still reject it. BMP and TIFF are uncompressed or lightly compressed formats mainly needed when legacy software or a print workflow demands them. Quality settings and repeated conversions
Converting to JPG or WebP applies lossy compression, and losses stack: a JPG saved from a JPG that was saved from a JPG accumulates visible artefacts around edges. The safe pattern is to keep one high-quality master (PNG, TIFF, or the original camera file) and always convert from that master to whatever a task needs. When exporting JPG, quality 80–90 is visually indistinguishable from 100 for most photos at half the size; drop lower only when a hard KB limit forces it, or use Image Compress to target an exact file size.
